About three-quarters of Internet users do not speak English as a first language, and this proportion is growing. Making domain names available to people using letters that involve non ASCII characters was a necessity and is now a reality.
Although webmasters have not yet fully adopted Internationalized Domain names, it makes no doubt that they will strongly develop in the next years. Type-in is already strong and in many languages, spelling is something important. No doubt that IDNs are a seducing form of domain names in Chinese, Arabic or Russian. But even in European languages, IDNs seem to offer an attractive form of domain names and they have already started to sell well in some countries like Germany. In any case, all good names have been reserved for long. When they are able to hit the secondary market is another matter, and the market visibility remains low in the short-run.
